WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?
Chiropractic is
the branch of health care that focuses on removing nerve pressure
so the body can function the way it is supposed to. Your brain controls
and coordinates every cell, tissue and organ. The brain sends and
receives messages through nerves. These nerves travel down your
spinal cord and then out through holes between you vertebrae at
every level of you spine and sacrum. If a bone is stuck out of its
normal position (usually seen with postural imbalances) then a significant
amount of pressure can be placed on the nerve roots. This pressure
will cause interference and the signals get mixed up, deleted or
sent over and over again. This results in something not working
right in your body and you may feel symptoms.
The chiropractic adjustment is designed to move the bone towards
its proper position and remove the pressure on the nerve. This eliminates
the interference between your control center (your brain) and all
the different parts of your body, allowing them to work the way
they are supposed to.

IS THE CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT DIFFERENT FROM MANIPULATIONS PERFORMED
BY OTHER HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS?
The spinal adjustment
from a chiropractor is sometimes confused with spinal manipulation
given by osteopaths, medical doctors and some physical therapist.
The two are very different.
• The adjustment is a specific force applied to a specific
bone in a specific line of correction with the purpose of removing
nerve interference. Normal motion and function of that joint and
area is restored and pain reduction is one byproduct of this.
• A manipulation is a general force applied to a general area
of the spine with the purpose of restoring movement to a fixated
area. This can temporarily restore motion to that area, but does
not remove the nerve interference, and thus does not affect overall
health and pain relief is usually temporary.
The Chiropractor
has hundreds of classroom hours in adjusting, more than 10 times
the average osteopath or physical therapist. The adjustment is the
main tool of chiropractors, so chiropractors have, not just more
schooling but, much more experience in adjusting.
